They say that the only certainty in life is death and taxes. I think we can add rising energy costs to that list. Solar can help you tackle these costs by reducing the amount of energy to need to buy from your energy retailer (Ergon for example). This “retail” energy is generally priced at around 20 – 40 cents per kWh.
As solar power is generated in sunlight hours we get asked “What is there is no one home during the day?” A house will always have an electricity use load even when no one is home. This is the fridge, freezer, clocks and indicator lights and appliances that are left on.
These days appliances often have delayed start so you can program pool pumps, dishwashers, washing machines and even robot vacuums to be programmed with delayed start.
When factoring in that approximately 3 out of 10 days are either a weekend or holiday and the hours that the kids are home from school in the afternoons, there are plenty of opportunities to use your energy while your solar system while the sun is shinning and the solar system running.
Battery storage is also starting to look more favourable with the increase in efficiency and decrease in prices.
