The Queensland smoke alarm legislation specifies that all Queensland dwellings will be required to have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in all bedrooms, in hallways that connect bedrooms with the rest of the dwelling and on every level. Photoelectric smoke alarms see smoke and will alert you early, so you can escape. By having interconnected alarms, you will be alerted no matter where you are, or where the fire starts.
The legislation specifies the type, positioning and interconnecting of smoke alarms for Queensland homes. To comply with this legislation, all new dwellings and substantially renovated dwellings need to have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms from 1 January 2017. For existing domestic dwellings leased and sold, they must be compliant by 1 January 2022 and in all other domestic dwellings by 1 January 2027.
