Privacy policy

Plain version: we collect the details you give us so we can quote and do electrical work. We do not sell them, and you can ask us what we hold at any time.

Who we are

BH Electrics is a trading name of Sims Investments (QLD) Pty Ltd, a licensed electrical contractor operating from Shop 3, Port Traders, 5964 Captain Cook Highway, Craiglie QLD 4877. We hold QLD Electrical Contractor Licence 82270.

This policy covers the website at bhelectrics.com.au and the personal information we handle in the course of running the business.

What we collect

Through the enquiry form on this site we collect:

  • Your name
  • Your phone number
  • Your email address, if you give it to us
  • Your suburb
  • Whatever you write in the description of the job, including the site address if you include it
  • Whether you have told us the job is urgent

If you become a customer we also hold the ordinary records a trade business keeps: the site address, job notes, photos of the work, quotes, invoices, payment records, and any compliance certificates we issue.

Our website host records basic technical information such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested. That is standard server logging and we do not use it to identify individuals.

Why we collect it

To quote your job, to do the work, to contact you about it, to invoice you, and to keep the records that Queensland electrical law and normal business practice require us to keep. That is the whole list.

We may also use your contact details to follow up an enquiry you have sent us, or to let you know about something we found on your property that needs attention.

How it is stored

Enquiries submitted through this website are delivered to our office email and into our job management system. Both are password protected and only accessible to BH Electrics staff who need them to do their job.

Our website and form handling are provided by a third party hosting service. Our job management, accounting and email systems are also third party services. Some of these providers store data on servers outside Australia. We choose established providers and rely on their security arrangements, but we cannot control their systems.

We keep customer and job records for as long as we need them, which for compliance and tax purposes is usually at least seven years.

We do not sell your information

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information to anyone. We do not hand your details to marketing companies.

We will share your information only where it is necessary to do the work or where the law requires it. For example, with a supplier arranging a delivery to your site, with your body corporate manager or real estate agent where they are the one engaging us, with the energy distributor where a job requires it, or with our accountant, insurer or a regulator such as the Electrical Safety Office.

Cookies and analytics

This site uses Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, so we can see which pages people actually read and whether the call back form is doing its job. It sets a cookie in your browser to tell a returning visitor from a new one.

What that gives us is the shape of the traffic, not who you are: which pages were looked at, roughly which part of the world or the state the visit came from, what sort of device it was on, how you found us, and whether the visit finished with a call back request, a tap on our phone number, or nothing at all. It does not tell us your name or your address, and it does not tell us what you did on anyone else's website.

We do not use advertising cookies. Google's advertising and personalisation signals are switched off for every visitor to this site, in every country, and we do not run remarketing. If that ever changes we will update this page before it does.

If you are visiting from Europe, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, no cookies are set at all. The visit is still counted, just without one.

When someone sends us an enquiry we count it in Google Analytics as a lead. The count is the only thing that goes across. Your name, your number and whatever you wrote about the job stay in our own systems and are never sent to Google.

You can opt out whenever you like. Every browser can block or clear cookies in its settings, most ad blockers stop Google Analytics outright, and Google publishes its own opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Australian Privacy Principles

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). In practice that means we only collect what we need, we tell you why, we keep it secure, we let you see and correct it, and we do not use it for something unrelated to why you gave it to us.

Seeing or correcting what we hold

Ask us. Email [email protected] or ring (07) 4099 3497 and tell us what you want. We will confirm who you are, then give you a copy of what we hold or fix anything that is wrong. There is no charge for a reasonable request.

If you want us to delete your details, we will, unless we are legally required to keep the record (compliance certificates and tax records, mainly).

Complaints

If you think we have mishandled your information, contact us first. Email [email protected] or ring (07) 4099 3497 and ask for Leanne. We will look into it and come back to you.

If you are not satisfied with how we handle it, you can take the matter to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information we will update this page and change the date at the top.
