Now hiring
A-Grade Electrician, Port Douglas
Full-time, permanent, on the books. Small team, varied work, and a patch that runs from Cape Tribulation to the Low Isles light fifteen kilometres offshore. If that sounds better than another year on a city site, send us an email.
- 5.0 on Google
- 24/7 emergency callout
- Licence 82270
The role
What we are after
- A Queensland electrical licence
- Your own set of tools
- Able to run a service job on your own, start to finish
- Commercial and resort experience helps, but honest fault finding and a clean install matter more
This is a full-time, permanent position based at the Craiglie workshop. We are hiring now, not filing your details away for later, and we are looking to have someone started before the end of the year.
What it is actually like
Nine people, one workshop, no two weeks the same
Most days start at the Craiglie workshop on the Captain Cook Highway. You get a run sheet, you load what you need, and you go. Port Douglas is five minutes away and most of our work sits within half an hour of the door.
The mix is broad. One week you are chasing a fault through a resort switchroom, the next you are fitting out a shop on Macrossan Street, and every so often you are in the boat heading out to Low Isles or on the road up Cape York for compliance work.
It is a trade business, not a corporate one. There is no roster of managers between you and a decision. If something is wrong on a job you say so and it gets fixed.
The deal
What you get out of it
- A small team where you are not a number
- Four electricians, two apprentices, an administrator, plus Brad and Leanne. Brad is still on the tools. If you have a problem on a job you ring the owner, and he answers.
- Work that changes every week
- Resort switchrooms, beachfront houses, pub fit-outs, body corporate common property, a barramundi farm, and every so often the Low Isles light or a ranger base up Cape York.
- Proper gear and a stocked van
- Test equipment that is in calibration, vans that carry stock, and a workshop at Craiglie with parts on the shelf. Nobody works well with borrowed tools.
- A licence, a boss and a paperwork trail
- Licence 82270, full insurance, and an office that stays on top of timesheets, tickets and licence renewals. You do the electrical work, we handle the admin.
- A full-time job, on the books
- Permanent, full-time, with everyone on our books. No labour hire, no being sent out under someone else's name.
- Port Douglas
- Four Mile Beach is ten minutes from the workshop. The reef is out the front. If you have been doing hours on a city site in traffic, this is a different life.
How to apply
Email [email protected]
Put your resume in, and include your licence number and your tickets.
Brad or Leanne reads them. If it is a fit you will hear back and we will get you in for a chat at the workshop, and probably a day out on the tools so you can see what the work is really like.
Prefer to talk first? Ask us to ring you, say it is about the job, and Brad will get back to you during office hours.
Apprentices
Starting out? We are still keen to hear from you
The active vacancy above is for a licensed electrician, but we are always glad to hear from a good apprentice even when we are not running an ad for one. You do not need experience. You need to turn up, listen, and be willing to do the unglamorous parts without being asked twice.
What helps: a driver licence, a construction white card if you have one, and something you can point at that shows you finish what you start. Sport, a part-time job, a project in the shed. Any of it.
Send an email with your name, where you live, what year you are up to if you have started, and why you want to be an electrician rather than something else. A page is plenty.
One more thing
We do not do labour hire
Everyone who works on a BH job is on our books. That matters if you are joining us, and it matters to our customers. You will not be sent out under someone else's name.
