Who we work for

Electricians for Port Douglas resorts and accommodation

Resorts and apartments are the biggest single share of our work. We know these buildings, we know where the boards are, and we know that a guest complaint at 10pm is not a morning job.

On site

What a resort refurbishment looks like finished

Column uplighting, pendant fittings and the switching behind them, wired to survive the salt air and still be working every night a guest walks through. Refurbishment work does not stop when the last light goes in. It has to keep working long after we have left.

Who we already do this for

Port Douglas resorts and apartment complexes, in their own words

This is the work the business is built on. Several of these have been on the books since Brad and Leanne took over, through refurbishments, cyclones and three changes of resort management. A body corporate committee does not keep a contractor for six years out of sentiment.

  • “We can't speak highly enough of Brad and his team at BHE. We have used BHE for many years and since Brad and Leanne bought the business they have lifted it to another level and is even better to deal with. They are so helpful and have great problem solving ideas, as we need to get issues fixed very quickly being a holiday resort and dealing with guests.”

  • “We have been using the services of BH Electrics for more than ten years. We would not hesitate to recommend their services and their team from BH Electrics. From simple installations through to late night emergency callouts for switchboard failures, BHE has always provided us a professional and friendly service.”

Resorts and Accommodation: your questions

How often must exit and emergency lighting be tested?

Queensland Development Code Mandatory Part 6.1 requires fire safety installations to be maintained at intervals adequate to keep them performing to the standard they were originally required to meet, and it names AS/NZS 2293.2 for emergency lighting. Six-monthly inspection and an annual 90 minute discharge test is the accepted industry practice that meets that obligation, and it is what we schedule. We do the testing, the repairs and the logbook. Source: Queensland Fire Department.

How is the test and tag interval set for each area of a resort?

In Queensland the Electrical Safety Regulation 2013 takes precedence over AS/NZS 3760, and the interval depends on the class of work. Construction work is 6 months. Service work where there is no safety switch is 12 months. Office work where there is no safety switch is 5 years. WorkSafe's table does not define a class for accommodation, so rather than guess we walk the site with you and set the interval area by area against your primary duty of care. Can you do electrical work in a resort around guests?

Yes. Most of what we do in resorts happens in occupied buildings. We work in around housekeeping and check-in times, we keep the noise and the mess where it belongs, and our techs are presentable in front of guests.
