Jobs we can put a name to

Twelve jobs, from a pub that kept trading through its TAB bar build to a lodge with flood water through reception and a wind farm on the Tablelands. Every one names the client, who we worked for and the year, because a case study that names nobody is an advertisement.

Every project

01 Mount Emerald Wind Farm Renewables and infrastructure, 2017 to 2018. Most of what BH does fits in a building. This one fits in a landscape. Our people were on Mount Emerald Wind Farm from the start of construction to the end of commissioning. 02 After Cyclone Jasper Disaster recovery and backup power, 2023 to 2025. Cyclone Jasper flooded the Douglas Shire in December 2023 and took the power with it. BH Electrics spent the summer making properties safe and putting them back on. Then six businesses asked how to never be caught like that again. 03 Court House Hotel Hospitality, 2017, 2018 and 2026. BH Electrics has been in and out of the Court House since 2017. A front bar refurbishment, a TAB bar built around a pub that kept trading, and in 2026 the switchboards the whole hotel runs on. 04 Paddy’s Irish Pub Hospitality, 2018. Paddy’s took over the empty retail space next door and doubled its floor area. The deadline was St Patrick’s Day 2018, which is not a date anyone in an Irish pub negotiates with. 05 Jets Swimwear Retail, 2018. An empty tenancy and a brand with a national fit-out standard to meet. BH Electrics was contracted by Melbourne based Platinum Group Design and Construct to deliver the electrical side of it. 06 Bangalow Residential, 2018. Bangalow sits high above Four Mile Beach with an uninterrupted view along the coast. The pavilion bones stayed. Every electrical service in the building came out. 07 Cliffside Residential, 2021 to 2022. Cliffside is a large two-storey house above the water in Port Douglas, now let as a holiday home. Island Point Constructions renovated it from end to end, and BH Electrics did the electrical from the first day of demolition to the last day of fit-off. 08 Daintree Eco Lodge Resort and accommodation, 2019. Early in 2019 the Daintree River passed a flood height that had stood for 118 years. Flood water went through the main reception building at Daintree Eco Lodge, and BH Electrics worked directly with the client on the recovery. 09 Koko Poolside Dining Resort and hospitality, 2019. The kitchen came out completely so the floor underneath could be redone. Everything else at Koko was built back around that one fact. 10 Peppers Beach Club rooms, Port Douglas Resort and accommodation, 2021 to 2024. Between 2021 and 2024 around 46 guest apartments at Peppers Beach Club were refurbished, a block at a time, with the resort open and guests next door. Three different parties engaged BH Electrics over that time, and we did the electrical on every stage. 11 Peppers Beach Club & Spa, Palm Cove Resort and accommodation, 2023 to 2024. Accor engaged BH Electrics directly to refurbish the electrical in seventy guest rooms at Peppers Beach Club & Spa, Palm Cove. It ran from November 2023 to May 2024, in batches small enough that rooms came back into service every week. 12 Pullman Sea Temple rooms, Port Douglas Resort and accommodation, 2023 to 2024. Accor engaged BH Electrics directly for the room refurbishment at Pullman Sea Temple, Port Douglas. Five trial rooms were done in June 2023, and the main works followed in April and May 2024.

Straight answers

Working with us on a commercial job

Does BH Electrics do commercial fit-outs and refurbishments?

Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Hotels, bars, restaurants, retail tenancies, resort kitchens and high-end residential refurbishments across the Douglas Shire and the Cairns northern beaches. The twelve projects BH has written up are real jobs, each with the year, and most naming the client and who we worked for.

Can you work while our business stays open?

Usually, if it is planned that way from the start rather than patched around later. At the Court House Hotel the TAB bar was built in 2018 while the pub kept trading day and night. It costs some efficiency in the programme and it saves the trade, which is almost always the better deal. The exception is replacing the main switchboard, which takes the whole building off. That is a planned closure, and at the Court House it was two weeks in the quiet of the wet season.

Do you work for interstate builders and shopfitters?

Routinely. Jets Swimwear was delivered for Melbourne based Platinum Group Design and Construct, and Koko Poolside Dining with South East Queensland based Aizer Group. Working to a drawing, pricing variations in writing and holding a programme without daily supervision is a different discipline from working beside a builder you see every morning, and it is worth asking any electrician whether they have done it.

Do you use subcontractors on commercial jobs?

No. Everyone on a BH job is on our own books: four A-grade electricians and two apprentices, all ours. No labour hire, and nobody turning up on your site under somebody else's name.

How quickly can you get to a commercial breakdown?

Our Same Day Service Guarantee means any commercial job is attended the same day when you ring by 2pm on a business day, and it covers home emergencies too.
