Trial rooms first
Five trial rooms were done in June 2023, ahead of the main works. A trial like that is cheap insurance: it shows what is actually behind the walls in that building, how long a room really takes, and which of the designer's details need rethinking, before the same decision is repeated across every key.
The main works ran from April to mid May 2024, 22 keys including two-bedroom penthouses and a villa, in three overlapping blocks of seven or eight keys.
What went in
- Forty new ceiling fans across sixteen apartments, each on a three-speed wall controller
- Wall-mounted televisions with power and cabling moved in behind them, up to a 75-inch set in the villa
- Dual USB power points at the bedsides
- Cabinet lighting in the studio kitchenettes, LED strip and black cabinet lights
- Clipsal Saturn Zen push-button switches and fan controllers
- Pendants over the kitchens, and a stairwell pendant in the villa
- Switches and power points taken off and refitted around new wallpaper in the villa
Forty fans, three quotes
The fans went out to three wholesalers for competing prices before one was ordered. On forty of anything, the difference between suppliers is real money, and it belongs to the client rather than to whoever happened to be the first phone call.
While the crew was on site a power fault turned up in one of the villas. It was found and fixed while they were there, rather than becoming a separate callout on another day.

Questions this job answers
Why do trial rooms before a resort refurbishment?
Because the first room always finds something. A few trial rooms show what is behind the walls in that particular building, how long a room really takes, and which design details do not work in practice, before the same decision is repeated across every key. At Pullman Sea Temple five rooms were done in June 2023, ahead of the main works in 2024.
Can ceiling fans be replaced without rewiring the room?
Usually, where the existing fan point and the wiring to the switch are sound. The old fan comes down, the new one goes up, and a new wall controller goes in. Where the old wiring is not up to it, that is found and fixed first. Forty fans went in across sixteen apartments at Pullman Sea Temple, each on a new three-speed wall controller.
